Over the years, our family has prayerfully considered various ways to apply Psalm 68:4-5
, Psalm 82:3-4
, and James 1:27
. One recent way that God has provided a way to apply these verses is for Scott to have been hired as the Program Manager for a local homeless shelter for families in Portland called My Father’s House. Another way we feel compelled to apply these passages is by seeking to adopt a sibling group of orphans (2-3 children). In our country, orphanages no longer exist. However, there are thousands of children in the foster care system who are waiting for an adoptive family to choose them. Because God has blessed us with two children with special needs, we feel that He has prepared and equipped us to be able to understand some of the challenges of parenting children coming out of the system. We feel honored to have the opportunity to share the love of Christ with our future children and love them simply for who God has made them to be – despite their past, despite their behavior, despite the pain of what has been done to them.
Adopting a sibling group has been on our hearts for many years. As many of you know, we’ve begun the process several times; however, circumstances revealed that it was not yet God’s time. We sense that God’s timing is now. It doesn’t matter to us if we adopt boys, girls, white, black, or purple – at this point, all we know is that they will be younger than Jonah (10).

Although we could adopt directly through the state of Oregon, after prayer and counsel, we’ve decided to adopt through a local agency: Christian Family Adoptions. CFA is a Christ-centered agency that offers a level of support and advocacy that is simply not possible through DHS. Because of our particular situation, they have reduced their fee to $3200 which would cover the entire adoption, regardless of the number of children we adopt. So, we are asking God to raise these funds so that we would be able to pay the required adoption fees and move forward in the adoption process.
Please take a moment to stop and pray for our family. If you or somebody you know would like to donate money to our Adoption Fund (whether $5 or $500), please click the “Donate” button in the upper right corner or visit the contact page (questions, encouragement, pledge a donation by check, etc). Thank you so much for considering partnering with us in this journey.
