I met with 3 of my girlfriends this morning over breakfast. And as we were drinking our coffee, I shared the stories of how we adopted our 2 sons, Jaden and Jonah. And I cried. Not only because of how blessed we are to have adopted them, but how fortunate we are that they come from such loving birth-families. Adoption is awesome. I also cried because I remembered how sick each of our sons used to be – one with seizures and the other with severe constipation, rashes, infections, and the list goes on… And I was so very thankful that they are both healthy now.
Scott is out of town tonight, so the boys and I just finished a special Star Wars date before bedtime. We made nachoes and watched The Empire Strikes Back – Episode V. The boys have been into Star Wars lately (playing with Scott’s old action figures, pretending to fight with light sabers) and so they loved watching the movie with me. They had already seen the pod race from Episode 1 and more recently they watched all of Episode IV. At the end of tonight’s movie, Darth Vader tells Luke that he is his son. Jaden said, out loud, “No he’s not. He’s lying. He’s just a big liar and wants Luke to choose bad.” I tried to explain that Darth Vader really was telling the truth and told the boys that Anakin and Darth Vader are one and the same. Jaden didn’t believe me. Jonah just shrugged his shoulders like, “whatever, mom.” Jaden, however, is still laying there in his bed trying to process what all of this means. Why would Anakin choose to be bad…why does Anakin look like Darth Vader now…etc. He’ll probably be awake for at least an hour thinking through it all. Both boys are precious and I savor these moments with them!
Anna,
I told Scott he is so blessed to have you in his life. Your persistence has healed both boys from their early beginnings in life as two ill children. God placed these boys with the greatest Mom & Dad!
Karen was going to sell the Star Wars figures in her garage sale, I told her to put them away. I knew their worth. And now they are being enjoyed by her grandsons! How special!
Love,
Kathy
