Thanksgiving

Our Thanksgiving didn’t turn out quite as expected.

We had a great time cooking the food and hanging out with friends. I cooked the turkey in a new way (at least for me) and it was the best turkey I’ve ever done!! Check it out at www.chefmarc.com. High heat cooking. Yum – that turkey was good!

The unexpected part was getting a message from our dear friends in TX. On Wednesday afternoon, 2 of their children, Marshall (20) and Mason (18) were in a car accident. Marshall died on the scene. A couple of people were able to pull Mason out of the burning car. He is currently in the hospital with severe burns covering 15% of his body.

So, a good portion of our Thanksgiving day was spent crying and reminicing about times that we had spent with Mason, and Marshall especially. Scott and I used to babysit them. Marshall was a quiet kid with a crooked little smile – very smart. He loved to build things – legos in his bedroom and a fort in the backyard. Almost everytime that Scott went over to their house, Marshall asked if they could go out back in the field beyond the fence and play a game of soccer.  He was a good kid and he will be missed by all who knew him.

In the book of James, the Bible says,

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”  Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.  What is your life?  You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  4:13-14   This Thanksgiving was a good reminder of how short our life here really is – and how precious time with family and friends is.

About Anna

I've been married to my college sweetheart for 17 years and we've been in full or part time ministry ever since. I am a stay at home mom who homeschools our oldest son (11) while our youngest son (9) attends public school. Having adopted both our kids, we are big fans of adoption. My oldest has Asperger's Syndrome and my youngest has been diagnosed with a mood disorder, possibly bi-polar. I also have two long-haired dachshunds that I adore - Eli and Graham. I enjoy camping, watching movies, listening to and singing all types of music, and just spending time together with my precious family.
