my vitamix
I’ve spent the last month selling various household and kitchen items on Craigslist. Why? So I could save up enough money to buy a brand new Super Vita Mix 5200!! I am totally smitten with this machine already… and it only arrived yesterday.
Last night, I made a Green Smoothie made out of spinach, blueberries, a banana, rice milk and some ice. It blended all together in a matter of seconds and there weren’t any green pieces floating through it! Best of all, the kids devoured it.

Fresh out of the oven (cheesecake)
This morning for breakfast, I made Banana Peanut Butter Shakes for Scott and Jaden, and Blueberry Mango Smoothies for me and Jonah. Delicious and nutritious! Then I proceeded to make the batter for a Homemade Chocolate Cheesecake that I then baked in the oven and will later serve for a dessert meeting at our house.
Did I mention that the Vitamix cleans itself? Yes, this awesome machine even becomes it’s own dishwasher. I simply filled it with a few cups of warm water and 2 drops of dish soap, and then turned it on high for 2 minutes and it was all clean! How easy is that? No parts to take apart and scrub!
My vitamix (I love saying that) came with a big recipe binder full of things for me to try, including homemade rice milk, peanut butter, hot soups (it will actually heat the soup for you!), hummus, ice cream… the list goes on and on. I don’t think I’ll ever have to buy rice milk again!! Plus it grinds all sorts of grains and after adding a few ingredients, will even knead it all into bread dough that you can plop right into the pan and bake. I think I’ll try that later today…

I must admit, I am benefiting in many tangible ways from this acquisition, most of them in the yumminess/health area.
Anna found it on ebay brand new with the seven year warranty in an unopened box for about $100 cheaper than buying it direct… what a deal finder.
Matt calls those green smoothies “grass smoothies”. He likes them well enough but thinks they kind of taste like grass. We usually have strawberry and banana with spinach and a little yogurt. I haven’t made them with blueberries though; the stronger flavor of blueberries would probably hide the taste a little more!
You had me sold at cheesecake
Wow, sounds like a miracle machine! That’s great that you can use it to get more veggies into your kids! I’ve been working on that for my kids, hiding spinach in spaghetti sauce and so forth, but the Vita Mix sounds awesome!
