This summer both boys participated in our library’s summer reading program again. The big reward for them was getting a pass to Oaks Park for only $3.50 (vs. $14!), along with $5 of free books and passes to various other places in Portland like the Children’s Museum or roller skating. And of course the best reward of all… the privilege of reading books all summer long and growing in their reading skills.
Anyhow, Oaks Park was a huge hit, of course. Both boys are on the small side (don’t tell them though!) and so Jaden especially gets frustrated when he’s not tall enough to ride something. He is our little dare-devil. Jonah, on the other hand, has always been perfectly satisfied with the kiddie rides, not wanting to even attempt to go on a scary looking ride… until this time.
Here’s Jaden on a crazy, spinning while rocking back and forth, Disco ride. Notice how small he is compared to all the others.
Here the boys are on the Spider.
And now for the ride that made me almost pass out just by watching. Jaden has been on it before, but it was Jonah’s first time. The crazy thing lifts you high up off of the ground (see the ferris wheel nextdoor) and tilts you and spins you around. Fast. And look at how well the kids are strapped in. I know, centrifugal force. But it sure is scary to watch your 6 year old baby riding the thing! The boys loved it kept wanting to go back for more.

What great pictures. The boys are a lot more brave than me. I wouldn’t get on any of those ride. Their grandmother Karen would have been on every ride with them. She loved all types of rides…although Karen, Scott & Vic did think they were going to die on the Magic Mountain (I think that’s the name of it) ride at Disney World
Oh, my goodness, Anna. I can’t imagine what that felt like watching them on that ride! You are such a brave and cool mommy!! I think I would have just smiled and said “are you kidding?” very seriously!
We’re taking the boys to Six Flags for the first time this Sunday for Brady’s 6th birthday – I’m already nervous! …although I don’t think they would even consider a ride of the magnitude shown here!
