Some days I love homeschooling!

We had a really fun day of school yesterday.

We got through with our math, handwriting and spelling first thing so that we could move on to the “fun stuff”.  Yesterday, the “fun stuff” began with couch time (history, english, reading).  We’re learning all about George Washington, the Boston Tea Party, and the time when the new colonists first began to call themselves Americans.  The kids and I are really enjoying reading about this time in history, looking at our US and World maps as we learn.  To go along with this, I am reading a chapter book to them about a little girl who got lost in the woods and is being protected at night by a bear – The Story of Sarah Whitcher.  It’s a great book and mentions several of the colonies that we have just studied in our history lessons.

We are also learning about the wise man who built his house upon the rock, from the book of Matthew.  So, for our art project, the boys found a smooth, flat rock from the backyard and we wrote JESUS on it.  Then we built a little cardboard house to put on top of the rock.   The kids decorated the rock with flowers and grass made out of clay.

And then, the kids were in a puzzle mood.  Puzzle time commenced!  They worked on a puzzle by themselves in the playroom – and it was actually quiet for a while!  And later, we did another puzzle at the kitchen table together.

I really love homeschooling on days like this!
