Summer Vacation

This past week, our family went on our annual camping trip, this year in Central Oregon. On our way into town, we stopped and spent some time at my brother’s house just outside of Prineville. He and his wife have a lovely home with windows that overlook the mountain range in the distance. While the adults talked on the back porch, the boys searched for bugs – Jaden even found a walking stick! After that, we headed on down to our campsite at LaPine State Park, set everything up, did a bit of exploring (bug hunting) and went to bed.

The next day, we spent the morning at the campground and then went to Paulina Lake and Waterfall, drove up to Paulina Peak and toured the Big Obsidian Flow.

As a girl, I grew up coming to Lapine where my grandparents lived for many years. One of my favorite memories was going to Twin Lakes… so I took Scott and the boys to spend the day there! Jaden loved catching little fish with his hands or a little net while Jonah either helped or floated about in the inner tube. Both boys tried fishing, but alas I was the only one to catch anything… a catfish! And we didn’t get a photo of it either.

The next day, we went to visit Lava Butte. Scott and the boys even climbed through the Lava River Tube – it was 40 degrees and by the end of the cave, all 3 were on their hands and knees!

On our final day in Central Oregon, we went to the High Dessert Museum. What a cool place to visit! And you’ll never guess what their feature exhibit was… are you ready for this? The Basque people! Fermin, are you reading this?
